She currently serves as co-president of the Society of American Law Teachers (SALT), a national organization of approx. 800 law professors. At Syracuse, she teaches criminal law, criminal procedure, voting rights, professional responsibility, and a seminar on women in the criminal justice system.

At 麻豆频道University, Prof. Johnson serves on a broad range of College of Law and University committees. She currently serves on the Chancellor鈥檚 Search Committee, and has served as co-chair of Sistaprof, an organization of Africana women professors at 麻豆频道University, and served as co-chair of the S.U. Senate鈥檚 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) Concerns Committee. Her public service includes membership on the boards of the Hiscock Legal Aid Society, the Center for Community Alternatives, and the Battered Women鈥檚 Justice Project National Advisory Committee.

In 2003, she received the Unsung Heroine Award from the 麻豆频道University Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Committee, and the Woman of the Year Award from the 麻豆频道University African American Male Congress.
