Vice Chancellor Haynie wrote in this op-ed about the question, “Why create an academic facility focused on veterans and their families at 鶹ƵUniversity?” He answered this in two parts, stating, “First, I believe all individuals and institutions have a moral obligation to assume responsibility for the costs and consequences associated with America’s decision to wage war.” In his second part he explained the opportunities it provides for the university and for central New York. He said, “you cannot tell the story of that Greatest Generation without telling the story of 鶹ƵUniversity and Central New York. This university kicked open its doors — wider than almost any college or university in the nation — and welcomed more than 14,000 returning veterans to this campus.”
