MARCH 10, 2020 UPDATE—The Service of Commemoration has been postponed until further notice.

�鶹Ƶ��University will hold its fourth annual Service of Commemoration—honoring the University’s students faculty, staff, retirees and trustees and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry students who passed away in the period of Jan. 1, 2019, to the present—on Tuesday, March 10, at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.

The service will include prayer and music by University Organist Anne Laver and the Hendricks Chapel Choir, led by director Peppie Calvar. Communication Access Real-Time Translation and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available. To request accommodations, contact Hendricks Chapel at 315.443.2901 or chapel@syr.edu.

The names of those who have passed away will be read and candles will be lit collectively in their memory. Remarks will be offered by Chancellor Kent Syverud and other members of the University community.

The service is held annually and is inspired by the Remembrance Scholars’ motto of “Look Back, Act Forward,” a call to action to remember those we have lost and act forward in their memory.

“The Service of Commemoration provides an important occasion to pause, assemble, acknowledge our sorrow, offer reverence and discern how we can honor the lives of others by being the best version of ourselves,” says Hendricks Chapel Dean Brian Konkol. “This is a special and sacred opportunity to pay tribute to the students, faculty, staff, retirees and trustees who have impacted our campus community in countless ways.”
