Students to Volunteer in the 鶹ƵCommunity Over Spring Break

Students staying on campus over Spring Break now have the chance to explore the city of Syracuse while volunteering alongside the community.

The Office of Engagement Programs in Hendricks Chapel will offer volunteer opportunities over Spring Break for 鶹ƵUniversity students who are staying on campus. These opportunities will connect students with community nonprofits that are focused on addressing food insecurity.

Over the course of the week, students will be able volunteer at the Samaritan Center, Meals on Wheels of 鶹Ƶand the University United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Syeisha Byrd, the director of the Office of Engagement Programs, is also planning a learning tour of the Food Bank of Central New York and the Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry.

“I really want to concentrate on food insecurity, from the campus to the community,” says Byrd. “This is an important issue that students can have a direct impact on, right now, as young adults.”

The exact dates and times for these volunteer opportunities will be finalized over the next week. Transportation will be provided, and the program is limited to 11 participants.
