Grammy-Nominated Vocalists Sweet Honey In The Rock to Perform at Hendricks Chapel Oct. 14

Grammy-nominated, all-female vocal ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock will perform in Hendricks Chapel on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.

The concert is part of the Malmgren Concert Series and is free and open to the public. Before the concert, a free Soulful Eats dinner, a partnership between Hendricks Chapel and the Office of Health Promotion, will be held at 6 p.m. in the chapel’s Noble Room; the dinner is open to all. A reception with light refreshments will follow the performance.

Sweet Honey In The Rock is an ambassador for African American culture and music. The group has traveled the world sharing its soulful music and has been invited to perform at the White House and Carnegie Hall.

These legends of all-female a capella are making a rare stop in Â鶹ƵµÀas part of their 45th-anniverdary season. Their compelling and soulful music speaks to many important issues, including equality, empowerment and solidarity. Together, this dynamic combination showcases the group’s versatile musical talent.

The group’s five vocalists are Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, Carol Maillard, Rochelle Rice and Louise Robinson. They are accompanied by Romeir Mendez on upright acoustic and electric bass.

American Sign Language interpretation will be available during the performance. Parking, including accessible spaces, will be available in Irving Garage and the Q1 and Hillside parking lots.
