At the end of each school year, students, faculty and staff come together to donate clothing, household items and food through the Ten Tons of Love collection drive. These items benefit charities and individuals in the 鶹Ƶcommunity.
This year’s effort begins Thursday, May 3, and extends through Friday, May 11. Donation boxes will be located in most residence halls, Schine Student Center, Goldstein Student Center and some Greek houses on campus. Donations of non-perishable food items will also be accepted at these same locations. Food donations will benefit the Hendricks Chapel food pantry and local CNY food banks.
Ten Tons of Love would not be possible without the generosity of students, faculty and staff. Throughout its history, the Ten Tons of Love initiative has collected tons of items that have helped thousands of families in the 鶹Ƶarea. Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (FIJI) has partnered with Ten Tons of Love again this year to assist with donation collections.
“This year, FIJI brothers will deliver all of the items donated from participating Greek houses and the larger 鶹ƵUniversity community to the Boys and Girls Club, located just past the Brewster, Boland and Brockway complex,” says Patrick Fessler ’19, a child and family studies major in and FIJI’s philanthropy chair. “We encourage participation from all Greek houses. Ten Tons of Love is a great way for students and the community to get involved directly with the greater 鶹Ƶarea.”
