On Monday, Oct. 9, �鶹Ƶ��University will host a Universitywide celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.  The University’s adoption of Indigenous Peoples’ Day began last year.

The Indigenous Students at �鶹Ƶ��recognized student organization, indigenous graduate students, the Native Student Program in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Native American Law Student Association in the are hosting a celebration and educational activities on the Einhorn Family Walk from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“We come together as a campus community to recognize, celebrate and honor the many contributions of indigenous peoples across the world,” says Regina Jones, assistant director in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Native Student Program. “Throughout the day, we encourage students, faculty and staff to participate in the events to learn about indigenous peoples’ history and cultures and engage in dialogue.”

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF)’s Center for Native Peoples and the Environment and Student Diversity and Inclusion Office will also host a celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Campus community members from both campuses are invited to participate in all events.

The schedule of events includes:

• 9 a.m., Opening Thanksgiving Address, ESF Quad
• 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Cultural organization tabling including �鶹Ƶ��Cultural Workers, student groups, community groups, and Center for Native Peoples, ESF Quad
• 11 a.m.-2 p.m., �鶹Ƶ��University Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration, Einhorn Family Walk
• 1-2 p.m., How to be an Ally to Native and Indigenous People: A Conversation with Onondaga Clanmother Freida Jacques and Jack Manno, 14 Bray (ESF)
• 2-3:30 p.m., “Spirit Game” Film Screening, 110 Moon (ESF)
• 4 p.m., Closing Thanksgiving Address, ESF Quad
• 7 p.m., The Struggle for Indigenous Peoples’ Rights: a panel discussion sponsored by Indigenous Students at �鶹Ƶ��and the International Socialist Organization, 500 Hall of Languages

In addition to on-campus events, the campus community is also invited to attend the Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON)’s celebration at 4:30 p.m. in Columbus Circle in Downtown Syracuse.
