Innovation Orange: Associate Professor Jay Henderson

These sleeves are a model for what could one day be used to encase a broken bone beneath the skin, healing the injury without the need for a hard cast.

Associate Professor , a researcher with the 鶹ƵBiomaterials Institute and faculty member in the department of biomedical and chemical engineering in the , conducts research pertaining to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The results of his work and that of his students could one day provide medical professionals and patients with the option of a cast located not on top of the skin, but beneath it.

Henderson’s research is the first to be featured in a series called Innovation Orange. Innovation Orange will highlight the interesting and important research and creative work conducted by 鶹ƵUniversity faculty. “We are thrilled to have an opportunity via this platform to draw attention to the ideas, insights, and inspiration that our faculty bring to the University,” notes LaVonda N. Reed, associate provost for faculty affairs and professor in the . “Our faculty are creatively pushing the boundaries of how we know, understand and impact the world around us.”

Innovation Orange aims to highlight the insights and ideas pursued by exceptional faculty, to increase campuswide awareness of faculty research and creative work, and draw attention to student involvement in shaping it.

Videos will also highlight faculty collaboration and demonstrate connections between scholarship work and current themes in the nation and world. Importantly, each installment will elaborate on the intricate relationship between faculty scholarship and creating a superior student experience.
