“This is an exciting and critically important time for the College of Law, and I am delighted that LaVonda has agreed to chair the search for a new dean,” says Liddy. “The legal profession nationwide faces significant challenges and opportunities, and the college has tremendous assets on which to build—including a highly motivated and deeply talented faculty, a strong student body, robust programmatic initiatives and, of course, a new state-of-the-art facility. As a member of the law faculty, LaVonda has a keen understanding of the qualities needed to steer the college in a way that expands on those assets and provides our students with the very best legal education possible.”

Reed served earlier this year on the search committee for a new athletics director and has served since last summer on the Executive Committee for the Operational Excellence portion of Fast Forward Syracuse.

“I have enormous respect and admiration for my faculty colleagues and for the staff, students and alumni of the College of Law and am honored to have been selected to serve the College of Law in this important capacity,” Reed says. “Without question, I am looking forward to leading the charge of selecting a dean who will work with the dynamic, dedicated and hardworking faculty and staff to position our law school and our graduates for great success in generations to come.”

Members of the full search committee are expected to be named in the next few weeks. They will be tasked with identifying a successor to former Dean Hannah Arterian, who stepped down on Aug. 1 to resume her teaching and scholarly work as a member of the College of Law faculty. She had served as dean of the college for 13 years. William C. Banks, Board of Advisers Distinguished Professor of Law and founding director of the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism at the College of Law, currently serves as interim dean. Banks also holds a joint appointment at the as professor of public administration and international affairs.

The University has retained Korn Ferry to assist with the dean search. Korn Ferry is the world’s leading management consulting firm specializing in executive recruitment, and has served on 30 successful law school dean searches in the past few years.
