Ronald L. Caravan, an instructor of music in the ’ Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, will present a faculty recital on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. The recital is free and open to the public.

Caravan will perform on clarinet and saxophone. The program will include works by Xavier Lefèvre, Arne Running, Walter S. Hartley, Antonio Vivaldi, Warren Benson, John C. Worley and Caravan.
Caravan has been on the faculty of the Setnor School since 1980. He teaches clarinet and saxophone and also directs the Saxophone Ensemble. As a performer, he has broad experience as a solo and chamber music recitalist as well as a clinician. He is recorded in performance with the Saxophone Sinfonia (Golden Crest and Dorn Productions), the Aeolian Saxophone Quartet (Ethos Recordings) and the Society for New Music (Innova Recordings). More recently, he and pianist Sar-Shalom Strong have collaborated on a soon-to-be-released, multi-volume set of CDs representing a wide range of clarinet and saxophone repertoire.
As a composer, Caravan has several works published for clarinet and saxophone and is particularly well known for his music and teaching materials dealing with unconventional sound resources on the single-reed instruments. He has served as president of the North American Saxophone Alliance and is currently woodwind review editor for the New York State School Music News. He also has developed a line of clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces specially designed for “classical” performance.
He earned the performer’s certificate on clarinet from the Eastman School of Music, as well as the doctor of musical arts in music education and master of arts in music theory.
