The environmental and interior design (EDI) program in the’ (VPA) Department of Design has been ranked No. 9 in the nation for undergraduate interior design programs in the 2015 DesignIntelligence report “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools.” DesignIntelligence is the Design Futures Council’s bimonthly report on the future, delivering original research, insightful commentary and instructive best practices.

DesignIntelligence2015“I am very proud that the EDI program is ranked No. 9 in the nation,” says Sarah Redmore, EDI assistant professor and program coordinator. “This is remarkable for a relatively small program in Upstate New York that graduates less than 30 students per year. I’m proud of the quality of the education provided by our EDI faculty team. DesignIntelligence determines the top schools through a survey that asks firms across the country one simple question: ‘In your firm’s hiring experience in the past five years, which schools are best at preparing students for success in the profession?’ Therefore, I’d like to say a special thank you to our alumni who carry on the EDI mission and positively reinforce our reputation every day. They make us look good!”

In addition to Redmore, the EDI faculty includes Jason Coe, Tomas Delgado, Zoriana Dunham, Dennis Earle, Matt Finn, Julia Hafftka-Marshall, Lucinda Havenhand, Zeke Leonard and Lauren Zacher.

The DesignIntelligence study ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners. Selected professional practice leaders who have direct experience in hiring and supervising the performance of recent architecture and design graduates are invited to participate in the research.

The Design Futures Council is an interdisciplinary network of design, product and construction leaders exploring global trends, challenges and opportunities to advance innovation and shape the future of the industry and environment. Members include leading architecture and design firms, dynamic manufacturers, service providers and forward-thinking AEC firms of all sizes that take an active interest in their future.
