Event will be broadcast in Newhouse, Schine and webcast to SU computers
Tickets are no longer available for the Newhouse School’s dedication event with special guest Oprah Winfrey, to be held Sept. 29 at 鶹ƵUniversity.
The event, part of a daylong celebration of the dedication of the Newhouse Studio and Innovation Center, will also feature remarks from 鶹ƵUniversity Chancellor Kent Syverud; Newhouse Dean Lorraine Branham; and a student and faculty member from the Newhouse School.
Overflow seating will be available in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3 and the Underground in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. The event will also be live broadcast to screens throughout the Newhouse School complex and Schine, and webcast to computers with a 鶹ƵUniversity IP address.
Tickets were made available Wednesday morning to all 鶹ƵUniversity students. Others expected to attend the event include donors to the building project; additional students from the Newhouse School; and some members of the school’s faculty and staff.
“We at the Newhouse School are excited to celebrate the opening of our new studio facilities, which have been two years in the making,” says Dean Lorraine Branham. “We wanted to include as many people as possible in our celebration, but there were only so many tickets to go around. I know there are going to be some disappointed people who didn’t get a ticket, but I hope they can join us at one of the day’s other exciting events.”
The dedication event will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:45 p.m. at the Waverly Avenue entrance to Newhouse 2, which Winfrey will attend. The ceremony is open to the public. An open house will follow.
In addition, two symposia will be held in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3: “The Future of Digital Media” at 9 a.m. and “Dick Clark: A Discussion about a Great American Broadcaster” at 3 p.m.
The Newhouse Studio and Innovation Center is the result of an $18 million renovation of Newhouse 2. The new space will feature Dick Clark Studios and the Alan Gerry Center for Media Innovation.
