Mayor Stephanie Miner to Serve as Keynote Speaker for Elect Her

Â鶹ƵµÀMayor Stephanie Miner will serve as the keynote speaker for the Elect Her event at Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity on Saturday, April 5. The event is sponsored by the Student Association.

Elect Her is a program that encourages women to be involved in government and attempts to bridge the political gender gap in the United States. Students can sign up at students.syr.edu/electher

Miner will talk about her many experiences as a public servant. She has numerous accomplishments on her résumé, including being the first woman mayor of Â鶹ƵµÀand of any of the Big Five cities in New York. She was elected as Syracuse’s mayor in 2009.

Miner has devoted much of her life to public service. She previously served as a member of the Common Council from 2002 until 2009. She served as the New York regional representative for Gov. Mario Cuomo in 1994.

Miner has also championed the Say Yes to Education program, helping to secure $1 million in funding for the program during her time on the Common Council.
