The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program’s WorkLife Series continues with a two-part program on legal and financial issues in health care planning. The sessions are free, and all are welcome to attend.

The first session, “Health Care Planning Part I: The Basics,” will be held at noon Tuesday, March 5, in 369 Link Hall. It will cover basic estate planning and the key documents that are part of a solid estate plan: the last will and testament, durable power of attorney, health care proxy and living will. Participants also will investigate the tax implications and other impacts of beneficiary designations on life insurance policies and qualified retirement plans (such as 401(k)s, IRAs and 403(b)s). The session will conclude with a discussion of having (or not having) the appropriate planning documents in place.

The second session, “Health Care Planning Part II: Do You Need a Trust?” will be held at noon Tuesday, March 12, in 369 Link Hall. It will provide an overview of how trusts can be used to: protect assets against the costs of long-term care, minimize taxes, reduce the risk that beneficiaries may lose inheritances and provide a source of funds for disabled individuals without jeopardizing their government entitlements.

Participants also will discuss different types of trusts (revocable, irrevocable, inter vivos, testamentary, life insurance and supplemental needs), and explore situations in which they may be effective.

The presenter for both sessions is Timothy P. Crisafulli, co-owner of Crisafulli Gorman, P.C., a law firm specializing in trusts and estates, tax law and business law. Crisafulli holds an executive LL.M. in taxation from the New York University School of Law, a J.D. from the �鶹Ƶ��University College of Law, a master’s degree from SU’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and a B.A. from Le Moyne College.
