Jim Powers joins IVMF as IT help desk manager

Jim Powers has been appointed information technology (IT) help desk manager at the at Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity (IVMF). Powers will serve as the institute’s chief IT staff member, working in conjunction with IT support staff and offices within the University’s and central IT groups.

In his role, Powers will provide technology support for end users at the institute, in addition to hardware/software support and maintenance. Additionally, he will assist the IVMF’s veteran and military family entrepreneurship training programs by configuring, managing and troubleshooting learning management systems while providing on-site technical assistance during program in-residency periods.

Prior to joining the IVMF, Powers was IT help desk coordinator at Whitman. There, he provided technical support to all faculty and staff and assisted with classroom and student technology supports.

“Jim has had a consistent record of service to the IVMF during his time with the Whitman School. We look forward to a great future with him as a full member of our team,” says Dan Savage, IVMF chief of staff.

Powers is a 2006 alumnus of SU’s (iSchool). He holds a bachelor’s degree in information management and technology. As an SU student, he was head manager of the SU Orange men’s basketball team. In that role, Powers was a member of the 2003 National Championship team, in addition to two Big East Championship teams in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

Prior to joining SU, Powers worked for Cadaret, Grant and Co. Inc. in Syracuse. As the firm’s information technology technician, he rebuilt computers, performed inventory audits, managed user accounts and provided overall help desk support.
