Hillel, University Union present Scott Fried Oct. 21

Hillel and will host public speaker and health educator Scott Fried on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets–$3 for students with valid SU ID and $5 for faculty, staff and the general public–are available at the Schine Box Office (315-443-4517).

Alpha Epsilon Phi, OrangeAID, the Society of Public Health Education, Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc. and Keep a Child Alive are co-sponsoring the event.

Fried begins each lecture with his life-changing story of how he contracted AIDS when he was 24 years old. Sharing his story with the world, Fried has spoken at more than 500 colleges, universities and institutions in the United States, Canada, Israel, Holland and England, discussing matters beyond sexual responsibility, such as body image, eating disorders, alcohol and drug misuse, suicide, broken-heartedness and divorce.

Co-founder of an HIV-positive speakers’ bureau through the New York City Board of Education and a nonprofit AIDS organization in Manhattan, Fried also is the author of “If I Grow Up: Talking with Teens about AIDS,” and “Love and Staying Alive and My Invisible Kingdom: Letters from the Secret Lives of Teens.”
