鶹ƵUniversity student Christopher Doster ’10, a senior in the , will receive the Orange Spirit Award at the annual `Cuse Commotion pep rally on Friday, Oct. 2. The pep rally will take place on the Quad at about 6:15 p.m. and is part of SU’s new celebration, an expanded Homecoming + Reunion.

This is the fifth year that the Orange Spirit Award has been presented by SU’s and Traditions Commission. The award recognizes an SU student for academic excellence, service to the University and community, and respect for University traditions.

Doster is a native of Somers, N.Y., who is studying biomedical engineering. He maintains a 3.7 GPA and holds many academic honors, including Dean’s List, National Scholars Honor Society and Tau Beta Phi. As part of his student organization involvement, he serves as a supervisor, driver and dispatch for , and is a member of , and Class Council. Doster’s community service includes being a mentor orientation leader, a member of the APO Service Fraternity, an L.C. Smith Pathfinder, a member of University 100 and a volunteer for Relay for Life and Habitat for Humanity.

Doster was nominated for the award by Greg Victory G’04, director of the . In his nomination letter, Victory says, “I have had the opportunity to chat with Chris about his SU experience, something that he holds near and dear. There is substance behind his Orange Spirit, much more than being the loudest at an athletic competition, or having the craziest body paint. Chris has an often quiet and committed spirit that makes him an essential part of the SU family.”

The annual pep rally and bonfire will begin immediately following the parade. Admission is free. All SU students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the local community are invited to attend. Free parking will be available in the Lehman and Harrison lots and University Avenue Garage.
