Campus service remembering the late Lockerbie Scholar Andrew McClune will take place Feb. 18February 10, 2003Kevin Morrowkdmorrow@syr.edu

A service celebrating the life of Andrew McClune will take place Tuesday, Feb. 18, beginning at 3 p.m. in the main chapel of Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity’s Hendricks Chapel. McClune, 18, died Dec. 13. A native of Lockerbie, Scotland, he was a 2002-03 Lockerbie Scholar at SU.

SU’s Remembrance Scholars will serve as ushers, and SU’s Air Force ROTC unit will provide a color guard that will carry the Scottish flag. Those in attendance will be invited to sign a memory book that will later be presented to the McClune family. The family will be in attendance.

The service will begin with a greeting from the Rev. Thomas V. Wolfe, dean of Hendricks Chapel. A chaplain will offer a reading and prayer, and several speakers will refect upon McClune.

Among the speakers: Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw; Judy O’Rourke, senior administrator in the Office of the Vice President for Undergraduate Studies; Graham Herbert, rector of Lockerbie Academy; Ruth McNay, a 2002-03 Lockerbie Scholar; Samuel Gorovitz, professor of philosophy and public administration, who was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the time the special relationship between Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity and Lockerbie was created; Newhouse professor Lawrence Mason Jr.; representatives from SU’s Division of International Programs Abroad; and students from Sadler Hall and the SU Honors Program.

A reception will follow in the Noble Room of Hendricks Chapel. The service and reception are open to all members of the University and Central New York communities.
