Stanley Prue
One thing is obvious when speaking with Department of Public Safety Officer Stan Prue. He may have gone through an experience few have survived, but he has not lost his sense of humor.
During a recent phone call, when asked how he was doing, “Shockingly well,” was his response. Quite a statement for a man recovering from a lightning strike.
Media reports have covered the story well, detailing how Prue, while out on routine patrol, was hit by a bolt of lightning while exiting his patrol vehicle during a violent storm on South Campus. He credited his partner Ed Weber with saving his life, considering Weber quickly provided aid.
Six weeks have passed, and recovery has been slow for Prue, who suffered internal injuries and external scars. Now, an upcoming benefit in his honor will give Officer Prue a chance to say thanks to all those who’ve offered support.
Fellow DPS Officer Chris Daloia is organizing the event, and a has been established for people who would like more information on the benefit, or might not be able to attend but who care to help. Daloia says the purpose of the event is to “give people a chance to see Stan and find out how he’s doing, and so Stan can thank the people who’ve supported him, including those who helped save his life.”
The benefit will take place at the Valley American Legion on Saturday, Oct. 26, starting at 2 p.m.
