School of Information Studies

Members of the campus community are invited to attend an open forum on Monday, Nov. 26, from 2 to 3 p.m. in 111 Hinds Hall to offer input and ideas relating to the search for a new dean of the School of Information Studies (iSchool).

As the search committee undertakes its first task—creating a position description that will be used to advertise the opening and attract qualified candidates—all interested faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in helping to set the direction of the search.

Public input is very important. Those who are unable to attend the forum but would still like to make a comment or suggestion may contact committee chair David Seaman, dean of libraries and University librarian, at dseaman@syr.edu.

In addition to Seaman, search committee members are:

Gene Anderson, dean, Whitman School
Craig Cornelius, chair, Board of Advisors, iSchool
Caroline Haythornthwaite, professor and director of the M.S. in Library and Information Science program, iSchool
Jill Hurst-Wahl, associate professor of practice, iSchool
Chris Johnson, associate provost for academic affairs
Christine Larsen, University Trustee; member, Board of Advisors, iSchool
Leonard Lopoo, professor, Maxwell School
Jae Oh, professor and chair, EECS, College of Engineering and Computer Science
Jeffrey Rubin, associate professor of practice, iSchool; member, Board of Advisors, iSchool
Shanyah Saunders, undergraduate, Class of 2019, iSchool
Jennifer Stromer-Galley, professor, iSchool
Art Thomas, associate dean and professor of practice, iSchool
Sarah Weber, director of employer relations, iSchool
Lu Xiao, associate professor, iSchool
Yaxing Yao, Ph.D. student, iSchool
