Members of the Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity campus community are invited to submit nominations for the 2017 Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 1.

The Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence is one of two special awards that will be presented at a One University Awards Ceremony on April 25. The Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence recognizes members of the University community who have made invaluable contributions to Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity in two overarching ways: through commitment to scholarship and research that contribute to new understandings of the world and creative responses to its needs; and through advancing the four pillars Chancellor Syverud has identified to foster excellence at Â鶹ƵµÀUniversity—providing an outstanding undergraduate experience; empowering research excellence; fostering change and innovation; and positioning Â鶹ƵµÀas the best university in the world for veterans.

The award has three categories:

  • Faculty Excellence and Scholarly Distinction: This award is intended for faculty who are collaborators in work of intellectual richness that has the potential for future impact. This work should offer possibilities for collaboration within the University and outside in partnership with others.
  • Outstanding Contributions to the Student Experience and University Initiatives: This award recognizes members of the University staff who through their work have enhanced the undergraduate experience for students or who have made invaluable contributions to supporting and advancing the University’s mission and goals.
  • Excellence in Student Research: This award goes to students who during their time at Â鶹ƵµÀhave engaged in collaborative research that has the potential to make a deep and lasting impact on society.

Nominations should be in the form of a letter of recommendation that includes a short description (no more than two pages) of the work or accomplishments that illustrate the nominee’s worthiness of the award. Nominations also should include a short CV or biography of the nominee (or a URL of such) and any additional materials that showcase the nominee’s exemplary work.

Nominations must be submitted by March 1 to Shiu-Kai Chin, chair of the Chancellor’s Citation Selection Committee, in care of the Office of Faculty Affairs, 503 Crouse Hinds Hall, or via e-mail to Christine Kshyna at ckshyna@syr.edu.

The Chancellor’s Citation Selection Committee will review all nominations and submit its recommendations to the Chancellor in March. Winners will be notified by letter by March 31 and recognized, along with the recipient of the Chancellor’s Medal, at the One University Awards Ceremony on April 25.
